SECOND CONDITIONAL

SECOND CONDITIONAL

The second conditional is a type of conditional that is used to talk about events that are unlikely to happen in the future. For situations that the speaker considers unlikely to happen in the future. If I were an astronaut, I would travel to the Moon. If I were an astronaut, I would go to the moon.

this image we see how it is structured Second conditional:

The order of the two sentences that make up the structure of the conditional can be changed. If we start with the If condition, we will separate them by a comma. If we start with the sentence that expresses the result, it is not necessary to put the comma.

If I ate less, I would lose weight.

would lose weight if I ate less.

How is the second conditional used?

For situations that the speaker considers unlikely to happen in the future.

If I became President, I would change many things.

If I saw Madonna, I would scream.

For situations that are not true at the current time.

If I had more time, I would take up a sport

In this example, the boy does not have time (he works), but it is not unlikely that in the future that may change and he decides to play sports.

If you spoke up, I'd hear you.

In this example, the person who speaks cannot be heard well because he speaks softly. Even so, this may change in the future and speak louder.
